McCuaig & Associates Engineering Ltd. is looking for an electrical engineer with experience in building electrical systems to join our team at our Head Office in Burnaby, BC. The ideal candidate will have at least 7 years experience as an electrical engineer.
Key Responsibilities:

Be responsible for electrical engineering for MAE, a consulting engineering firm located in Burnaby BC.

Be able to work independently and report to Company Principals

Prepare detailed electrical designs from concept, tender, permit, and construction for commercial, recreational, municipal, industrial, and residential buildings

Review electrical designs prepared by others as needed
-
Travel to project locations as needed, usually for a half-day or full-day, to collect data, monitor construction progress, or attend design and coordination meetings. Some out-of-town travel may be necessary.

Utilize electrical engineering expertise and construction techniques to find solutions to design or on-site problems.

Create electrical design drawings and documents, including single line diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, load lists, cable schedules, and other relevant materials.

Conduct calculations for short circuit current ratings, load capacity, overcurrent protection devices, cable sizing, and voltage drop.

Develop comprehensive designs for 110/208/240/480/600V AC electrical power panels

Compile detailed specifications for electrical enclosures, VFDs, disconnects, breakers, distribution blocks, transformers, cable trays, cables, motor contactors, and other electrical components.

Collaborate with mechanical engineers and project engineers as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure everyone is aligned on electrical design.

Mentor junior engineers and technologists to guarantee that engineering outputs meet project demands, internal standards, industry standards, and good engineering practices.

Manage the electrical engineering aspect of various-sized projects.

Review existing building electrical systems and prepare electrical assessment reports

Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, and other specialty consultants

Complete site reviews/field investigation

Coordinate and run meetings internally and externally

Assist with interpreting and implementing applicable codes and regulations

Develop/review and approve budgets and cash flows

Develop/review shop drawings
-
Carry out contract administration duties

Assist in the preparation of technical proposal material for all projects

Act as a mentor, teacher and coach to less experienced team members with the goal of growing and guiding them through their careers

Evaluate the quality of technical design and support activities which assure a high level of technical quality throughout the firm
About You:
Education and Experience
-
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree specializing in electrical engineering from a recognized university
-
Must be registered as a P. Eng. with EGBC; Registration in other western provinces and territories an asset
-
Minimum 7 years of electrical engineering experience in the building construction industry

Technically proficient in Bluebeam Revu, Autodesk CADD/Revit, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Project

Experience with AutoCAD and Revit is preferred

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and adapt to shifting priorities

Proven track record of project management skills and experience

Strong knowledge of building and electrical codes and standards

Comprehensive knowledge of building electrical systems, constructability, materials and industry-associated standards

Evaluation of design quality and supporting activities to ensure a high level of technical quality throughout the firm

Receive and offer constructive criticism and communicate professionally

Scale process, design and effort as required by various roles on projects

Hold a valid driver’s license and be willing to undergo security screening
