Turning Point Recovery Society is seeking a qualified female addictions counselor for our North Vancouver Women's location. Master's Degree in health and /or social sciences preferred. Applications from candidates with an undergraduate degree and substance abuse counseling certificate plus a minimum of 5 years counseling experience in a bed-based or outpatient setting will also be considered.
The Addictions Counselor is primarily responsible for providing individual and group counseling services for residents and for implementing the Turning Point Recovery program with our clients. Additionally, the counsellor:
- Intervenes effectively with residents utilizing best practice, trauma-informed and client centered approaches;
- Assists residents in the development of Individual Care Plans, Relapse Prevention, Transition, Discharge and Continuing Care Plans
- Provides additional addictions support recovery services to residents as mandated by program and contract(s);
- Completes in-takes and other case management duties including report writing and documentation;
- Completes resident assessments, and makes appropriate referrals;
- May be required to transport clients to appointments periodically.
Required Skills, Experience and Education:
Academic
- A master’s degree in Social Work, Counselling, Psychiatric Nursing, Leadership, or a related field of health or human services, or;
- A bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counselling, Psychiatric Nursing, Leadership, or a related field of health or human services, coupled with a certification in substance use counselling
- Candidates holding master’s level experience and/or certification in substance use counselling may be considered
Professional
- 5 years of professional experience in bed-based substance use or mental health treatment setting
- Demonstrated expertise in counselling individuals with addiction and or mental health issues
- Demonstrated expertise in providing a continuum of care for the confluence of mental health challenges, substance use disorders, and trauma
- Knowledge of contemporary best practices and ongoing research in the treatment of mental health challenges, substance use disorders, and trauma
Required:
As per the Order of the Provincial Health Officer regarding Hospital and Community (Health Care and other services), dated October 14, 2021, all staff working at Turning Point are required to be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption in place.
Valid BC Driver's License
