FTE: Full-Time Permanent (IUOE) Position, 75.0 hours bi-weekly

About The Position:
The Incumbent will coordinate the ongoing implementation, monitoring and advancement of the Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention (MSIP) program in the western part of the province, with the primary worksite being Prince County Hospital. This position reports to the Provincial MSIP Coordinator at Health PEI as part of the Department of Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness.
Duties:
- Support MSIP/OH&S committees with the implementation of the MSIP program at the
assigned facilities according to Health PEI’s MSIP Policy/Program
- Assist with MSIP Training to support new trainers and nursing care students
- Customize MSIP training for work units in assigned sites that do not fit into the standard
training programs
- Stay informed on Health PEI musculoskeletal injury data and use findings to improve the programs in the assigned facilities
- Provide expertise and act as a resource on MSIP -related issues such as policy, training,
equipment and safe work procedures
- Conduct ergonomic assessments
- Work and collaborate with the provincial MSIP team to support and advance a system
wide MSIP program
- Collaborate with the provincial Occupational Health, Wellness& Safety team to promote a culture of safety at assigned sites
- Collaborate with Employee Abilities and Return to Work section of the Occupational
Health, Safety & Wellness team to provide support, ease back and modified duties.
- Conduct PSMS incident investigations related to MSIP specific injuries, including strains
and sprains.
- Assisting with the development of safe work procedures related to MSIP.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have successfully completed a post-secondary study from an approved school (Baccalaureate or master’s degree) in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy
- Must be eligible for registration with the respective professional regulatory organization.
- Knowledge and experience in MSIP (musculoskeletal injury prevention) programming
- Working knowledge of mechanical lifting and repositioning equipment/devices
- Knowledge and experience in ergonomic workplace assessments
- Knowledge and experience in adult learning/training
- Strong written and oral communication skills for interaction at all levels of the
organization
- Ability to influence others and move towards a common vision or goal
- Ability to be a team player - able to collaborate/work with and through others
- Must be highly organized with strong workload management skills especially regarding effective use of time, setting priorities, managing priorities and follow up
- Must be self-directed and able to work independently
- Must be able to take initiative as needed/appropriate
- Must have computer competency in use of word processing, spreadsheet applications,
PowerPoint (preferably MS Office Suite) and electronic mail
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation
