Summary of Position
The mandate of an Occupational Therapist is to help students succeed by promoting their participation in all school activities. You will identify barriers to participation and develop innovative solutions to maximize student potential. Our OTs support foundational skills that are needed for learning. Students you work with may be neurodiverse, have sensory processing and regulation differences, experience motor skills delays, or use adaptive equipment.
Accountabilities
Assess student physical and sensory development, environmental fit, occupations, and equipment needs. Focus is given to early intervention and tier three students who require intensive individualized supports.
Make recommendations based on formal and informal assessment of student, environment, and occupation to promote students’ participation in school activities.
Create and support the implementation of treatment plans to promote the functional development of students.
Collaborate and support school team, learning services, caregivers, outside agencies, division staff, and others to meet the functional needs of students.
Provide training and knowledge translation to school staff.
Qualifications
You must hold and maintain a practicing membership with Saskatchewan Society of Occupational Therapists (SSOT). Restricted License may be considered if appropriate support plan is in place and you are able to obtain Practicing Status within one year. Experience working with children or in school would be beneficial to the job.
This position involves travel to schools within the school division and a valid driver’s license and dependable vehicle is required, with compensation.
