Position Description
Title: Occupational Health Nurse & Safety Leader
Department: Human Resources
Location: Truro - On-Site
Immediate Supervisor: VP Human Resources
Status: Non-Exempt Salaried
Position Purpose: Lead employee health and safety activities within the plant.
Principle Accountabilities

Act as the site leader for employee safety, health, and wellness

Lead loss control program implementation and compliance including training, scorecards, audits, administrative support of program.

Key member of site safety pillar team tasked with promoting a culture of continuous improvement in terms of employee safety.

Coordinates pre and post-employment medical screening and monitoring programs - air quality, noise, occupational hygiene etc.

Coordinates and manages STD, LTD and WCB disability claims and manages the Early Safe Return to Work Program. Identifies goals, objectives, and actions to develop comprehensive case management plans that achieve desired outcomes within designated time frames. Accountable for the progression of disability claims cases including ongoing follow-up and coordinates interventions with internal and external parties.
- Liaise with corporate health and safety teams to ensure effective implementation and support on company safety programs and initiatives.

Provides first aid for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.

Consults with leadership regarding Team Member's status of absence and progress on modified work.

Responsible for the collection and management of medical, highly confidential, sensitive, and personal information required for the management of absences, accommodation, health and safety issues and formal complaints.

Promotes team member wellness programs and provides ongoing support for employee health and wellness concerns.

Manage the site health unit and hearing testing facility.
- Related tasks as requested by supervisor.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Registered and licensed with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing. Specialty in Occupational Health Nursing strongly preferred.

Previous work experience in health and safety or occupational health nursing.

Proficient in Microsoft Office suite required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills required.

Knowledge of current occupational health practices and applicable legislation is desirable.
