Job Title: Registered Clinical Counsellor
Location: Surrey
Hours: 30 - 35 hours/per week
Program: PICS Counselling Services
Job Summary: The Registered Clinical Counsellor will provide counselling support to the PICS clients (newcomers, immigrants, refugee individuals, individuals at risk or experiencing homelessness, individuals facing domestic abuse and violence, youth at risk, and individuals with multiple barriers. This role will involve both in-office, outreach, and advocacy support. All counselling services and interventions are individualized for each client and family with the aim of reducing barriers the client is facing and increasing capacity through a strength-based therapeutic approach. To serve the needs of our community, candidates must be able to provide service in English, additional languages an asset.
Reports to: Director of Youth & Community Initiatives
Key duties and responsibilities:
- develops strong therapeutic relationships with clients and families to achieve their goals and meet their needs;
- provides group and psycho-educational support for youth and families as required and identified;
- develops and modifies group curriculums reflecting most emergent practice and evidence-based support;
- participates in client service planning alongside clients and other counsellors within the department;
- completes screenings and assessments for referral clients;
- provides appropriate treatment/support including individual, couples and family therapy;
- establishes a supportive, therapeutic relationship with clients and their support systems;
- develops crisis and service plans with each client and their supports to support and maintain client wellness;
- establishes and maintains non-judgmental therapeutic relationships with clients, and collaborates and consults with colleagues and other community resources;
- uses appropriate testing and evaluation methods to assess patients;
- develops and implements a treatment plan, which may include counseling sessions, or other types of mental health care;
- diagnoses a patient’s mental and emotional issues;
- works closely with patients to develop a favorable treatment plan and goals;
- adjusts the treatment plan to find ways for method and patient improvement;
- educates the patient on coping strategies or stress-management techniques to handle stressful life situations;
- keeps records of the patient’s treatment plans and progress;
- assists with developing/providing education services as required, and participates in integrated service delivery;
- participates in case conferences, team meetings, and professional development, evaluation and quality improvement activities;
- makes referrals to other services as needed; and
- provides workshops on mental health and well being.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Master’s degree in counselling, psychology, social work or a related discipline from a recognized program;
- Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) designation from the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors is preferred (Individuals in the process of obtaining their designation may be considered); and
- At least one year experience in counseling.

- positive attitude; and
- strong critical thinking skills.
Other Requirements:
- a valid criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required; and
- Class 5 BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
