Reporting to the Director, Finance and Controller, the Senior Manager, Payroll Operations is responsible for operations (including strategic direction of management of staff and budget) and operational leadership direction of Payroll and associated systems.
The Senior Manager provides leadership in support of Sheridan's strategic direction, of the Finance business plan and departmental goals and objectives, specifically in payroll processing services.
They are accountable for project initiation and planning activities, maintaining current activity and supporting new initiatives in a service environment that uses integrated information systems and advanced technology.
What You’ll be Doing
Delivering a customer service-oriented department that is high functioning, efficient, accurate and scalable to Sheridan’s internal and external customers, while ensuring the productivity of day-to-day and year end activities of payroll.
Working in cross functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of projects to improve payroll functions in one or more of the following payroll processing functional areas: payroll processing, legislative compliance, management and reporting.
Developing a communication strategy, in collaboration with partners to ensure information regarding the service is available to faculty and staff to promote services in accordance with the Sheridan’s strategic direction; manages payroll related communication processes to ensure clear and consistent information.
Building, leading and empowering a diverse and capable team; ensures that operational assignments of team are carried out consistently with Sheridan policies and procedures which includes recruiting, records procedures and other employment related activities.
Developing, monitoring and communicating new and redesigned policies, business processes and practices in response/support of College and Finance initiatives.
Performing other related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:
4-year bachelors degree in finance, business, accounting or related field of study
7 years of in-depth knowledge of payroll operations management, tax regulations, employment and labour legislation (Equivalency will be considered)
Completion of a CPA designation (i.e., CA, CGA or CMA) or an equivalent CPA designation from a reciprocal membership body or mutual recognition agreement is desired.
Analytical skills, including financial analysis; Experience reconciling accounts
Computer proficiency: MS Office (Advanced Excel)
Familiarity with CRA legislation
In-depth knowledge of the business processes and reporting requirement of the higher-education sector or a large complex organization.
Experience understanding and administering collective agreement provisions
Effective report writing - Ability to assemble, analyze and clearly present complex data and recommendations into concise, formal reports and presentations

Salary Range: $111,203 - $139,003
