About this role
As a Remote Settlement Worker at Matthew House Ottawa, you will embody flexibility and dedication by providing essential support across multiple facets of our programs. Your role will transcend physical boundaries as you extend assistance to reception homes, transition housing, and collaborate with emergency shelters (e.g., Ottawa Mission and Shepherds of Good Hope). With a commitment to upholding Matthew House's mission, you will deliver remote case work, coordinate logistics, and assist in the delivery of our programs for refugee claimants.
You would be asked to:
- Offer remote support for our Refugee Services, including in reception homes, transition homes, and emergency shelters
- Collaborate in person and virtually with MHO colleagues and partners to ensure the smooth operation of initiatives
- Facilitate the intake process for new residents and clients, following established procedures
- Provide settlement support (virtual and in person) connecting clients to relevant social services, legal aid, and immigration resources
- Engage in virtual case work, tracking resident progress, addressing challenges, and maintaining detailed support notes
- Contribute to the maintenance of accurate digital records for all program participants
- Respond promptly and effectively to inquiries, calls, and emails, ensuring a high standard of client service remotely
- Work closely with team members to uphold efficient and effective service delivery remotely
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and a profound respect for human dignity in all interactions and tasks
- Perform other duties assigned by the Program Manager, Refugee Services
Essential Requirements:
- A background in Social Services or a related field from a post-secondary institution
- Demonstrated experience in client support, customer service, or a comparable domain
- Exemplary interpersonal skills and a non-judgmental approach to remote client interactions
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in the Ottawa social services sector (ideally with refugees)
- Proficiency in English, with additional language skills, including French, an asset
- Competency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, OneNote) for remote collaboration
- Strong problem-solving capabilities and meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a diverse remote team environment

Working Conditions:
- You will work with a team of committed and passionate individuals to run the refugee services program
- You will be required to work remotely and sometimes in person with refugees who recently arrived in Canada
- You must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19
