Your Opportunity
Your role is to work within a dynamic buildings team as a structural engineer on a variety of projects and lead a team of qualified engineers and technologist. You will have an opportunity to grow as a project manager, team leader, business developer and detailed designer.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for projects of small to large size with varying degrees of complexity.
- Team leader (Structural) within the buildings group located in our St. John’s, NL office.
- Evaluates, analyzes, designs, specifies, and details structural systems and components for a project.
- Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
- Development and management of project scopes, budgets, staffing, deliverables, and schedule in accordance with Stantec Project Management Framework guidelines.
- Lead the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.
- Performs and oversees the performance of calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software.
- Collaborate in a team environment on our projects.
- Utilizes BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of building’s structural systems and provides markups to technicians.
- Participates in project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
- Participates in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.
- Utilizes advanced techniques for the analysis of building elements for a variety of construction materials.
- Participates in constructability reviews and site inspections.
- Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
- Develops and assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the structural group.
- Works on multiple projects
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Requisite knowledge and application of CSA AND US structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes.
- Strong knowledge of structural systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards for concrete, steel and timber.
- Higher education in structural engineering (Master’s/PhD) degree will be considered an asset.
- Seismic analysis and design experience.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills.
- Presentation and interview skills are preferred.
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit; Prefer experience with AutoCAD, Newforma, Component Design Software (e.g.ETABS, SAFI, StaadPro, S-Frame, RAM structural system, etc.)
Education and Experience
- Higher education in structural engineering (Master’s/PhD) degree will be considered an asset.
- 10 years of experience in designing and managing medium to large-scale projects.
- Licensed as Designated Structural Engineer in Newfoundland and Labrador.
