Job Description
We are looking to hire a reliable Production Technician with experience in the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry. The Technician’s role is to contribute to the small-scale production of active pharmaceutical ingredients and intermediaries (Pilot Plant, Kilo Lab, Small Scale), in a safe and efficient manner. In compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and government regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Performing the batch-making process (under the direction of senior-level Production Technicians), and according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
- Loading/unloading vessels; transferring liquids and solids between vessels as required; charging liquids and solids to a vessel; monitoring parameters; and completing production related documentation (e.g., batch sheet, and log books)
- Sampling materials and products by reviewing and preparing documentation, preparing the sampling and protective equipment, obtaining the sample, and submitting to Quality and Compliance under the direction of senior-level Technicians
- Dismantling, cleansing, assembling, and setting-up production equipment
- Completing cleaning logs as instructed by a senior-level Technician
- Packaging and applying labels and lot numbers to identify batches, under the guidance of a senior-level Technician
- Participating in opportunities to develop industry-relevant production knowledge
- Actively engaging in training on SOP’s, technical manuals, and safety procedures, as required
- Complying with cGMP and safety operations (e.g., wearing Personal Protective Equipment—including self-contained breathing apparatus and cartridge respirators)
- Maintaining the cleanliness and order of the work area to ensure current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and safety compliance.
Qualifications: Skills & Experience
- Secondary School Education
- Previous experience in a production position—preferably in the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry
- Ability to work comfortably within an operations environment with indoor/outdoor physical demands, and shift work
- Skill and understanding in handling hazardous chemicals (WHMIS), is an asset
- Clear understanding of cGMP is considered an asset
- Proficiency with production equipment—such as pumps/hoses, sparkler filters, robot filters, fork lifts, and heating/cooling units is an asset
- Knowledge of PPE and SCBA is also an asset.
Physical Demands:
- Must occasionally move equipment and/or materials including 55 full gallon drums. Material handing equipment are available. Movement of large equipment is done with teams.
- Must be clean shaven to wear provided respiratory protection
- Must wear provided PPE, for example Tyvek coveralls, safety eyewear, gloves, and safety footwear
